Gimme Da Tea on CBD

So what is CBD anyway?

Before we get into that, let me give you a little background. You know that feeling we call "runner's high"? Well that's controlled by our body's endocannabinoid system (ECS). Let's look at this word for a second; "endocannabinoid". The word "cannabinoid" comes from "cannabis," and "endo" is short for "endogenous," which means that it is produced in the body naturally. Basically what we know as " endorphins" are caused by a system that self-produces chemicals similar to those found in marijuana..

The main job of the ECS is to maintain homeostasis; basically help the body regulate itself regardless of what's going on around it. It plays a role in how our bodies respond to things like pain, anxiety, and stress. This is where CBD comes in to play.

CBD and THC are just 2 of the 85 chemical compounds present in the Cannabis Sativa plant; which includes marijuana and hemp. These compounds are referred to as phyocannabinoids; phyto meaning coming from a plant. CBD interacts with a multitude of receptors in the body's endocannabinoid system:

  • CB1 which is in the central nervous system (brain and nerves of the spinal cord)
  • CB2 which is in the peripheral nervous system (nerves of your extremities), the digestive system, and specialized cells in the immune system.

These interactions help regulate a lot of important functions, such as:

  • Inflammation
  • Immune function
  • Mood
  • Sleep
  • Appetite
  • Digestion
  • Pain
  • Pleasure

But will CBD make me feel " high"?

The short answer is no. CBD is different from THC (commonly found in the marijuana we know today) in that it is nonintoxicating. Remember those CB1 and CB2 receptors? THC is able to bind directly with the CB1 receptors resulting in the psychoative effect of " getting high". CBD does not bond with CB1, and can actually neutralize the "high" of THC. So we are still able to benefit from the wonders of CBD without getting stoned.

Ok. I'm down to try it out, but there are so many options. How do I choose?

I'm glad you asked! Herb'n Essence offers a unique variety of products; something for all preferences. But my question for you is: what issues are you trying to resolve? Are you having trouble sleeping? Are you dealing with anxiety? Do you find yourself stressed out? Are you suffering with pain? Are you suffering from acne or skin care problems?

While each person's body will react differently to CBD, I would say start small and go from there. We offer CBD tinctures that I often recommend for first timers. Try 2 drops under the tongue 3 times a day.  Hold for at least 30 seconds before swallowing. It will likely take anywhere from 30 mins to an hour for CBD to reach it's peek. Observe how you feel. If you need more, go for it! No one has EVER overdosed from CBD. We also offer a variety of lollipops that have been infused with the same CBD oil found in our tinctures. This offers the same benefit with a little more "flavor".

For those of us with a few aches and pains, we offer a CBD pain rub. Simply massage the salve into the affected area and let the magic happen!

You'll also find a selection of soaps and body butter in our store. CBD's antioxidant activity makes these products great for incorporating into your daily skin care routine. Not to mention, both these products are made with coconut oils and shea butter to lock in that moisture!

It is known that smoking is the quickest way to feel the effects of CBD. In less than 10 mins, you will find yourself in a much needed state of calm and relaxation. Wind down after work with a glass of wine and CBD joint of Herb'n Essence's After 5 blend, exclusively grown by our friends at Hoppy Goat Farms in Humphrey's County, TN.
